Lake City lottery player enlists clerks’ help, wins $300,000 on scratch-off

LAKE CITY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Lake City lottery player’s decision to ask for help picking out a scratch-off lottery ticket turned out to be a good decision.

“I was happy,” the man told South Carolina Education Lottery officials after winning $300,000 in the Ultimate Bonus Payout game. “I always hoped I’d win, but I never thought it would happen. This is going to better me and my family for years to come.”

The man asked clerks at the Busy Corner convenience store on S. Ron McNair Boulevard to help him pick out the $10 ticket. He told lottery officials he had not had much luck with the ones he had been picking.

Lottery officials said Thursday there were three more top prizes of $300,000 remaining in the Ultimate Bonus Payout game. The odds of winning are 1 in 700,000.

Busy Corner received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
