LaGrange mom, on life support, returning to USA after stuck in Dominican Republic

LaGRANGE, Ga. (WRBL) – The family of Loretta Cox from LaGrange, GA tells WRBL she should be back on American soil Friday night. Thanks to donors they secured enough money to fly her back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We are told she is heavily sedated, the family will keep us updated on her progress. The family says Cox became critically ill during a cruise with her husband on Tuesday—when fluid built up in her lungs, leaving her unable to breathe. The cruise ship she was on had to make an emergency stop in the Dominican Republic to get her medical attention.

Aldes Monroe, Cox’s daughter, made a heartfelt appeal this week on social media, explaining the dire situation and the financial hurdles they face. “My mom Loretta Cox is on life support at a hospital in the Dominican Republic. They have charged us $15,000 cash upfront to admit her and $4,000 cash a day just to keep her stable, but they don’t have the tools to treat her. We need to get her to US soil. AirEvac International needs $23,287.50 upfront to airlift her and bring her to Ft Lauderdale! Please give your best!” Monroe wrote.

WRBL will keep you updated on her condition.
