Lafayette Post Office hosting a job fair on March 12 to fill 20 positions

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The United States Postal Service will host a job fair at the Lafayette main office at 3450 South St. on Tuesday, March 12, in hopes of filling up to 20 rural carrier assistant positions.

The job fair is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Rural carrier assistants are expected to deliver and collect packages along routes in rural areas and provide a variety of services to customers along an assigned route.

People who are hired will immediately be eligible to enroll in the USPS Health Benefits Plan with a Postal Service premium contribution.

After completing one year without a break in service of more than 5 days, carriers may also be eligible for: health insurance under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB); dental and vision insurance through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP); flexible spending accounts program through FSAFEDS and long-term care insurance through the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP).

The United States Postal Service recently announced that it was planning increase the number of employees in Indiana as part of its “Delivering for America” campaign.

“As part of our innovative and bold 10-year plan, Delivering for America, the Postal Service is focused on building a more stable and empowered workforce. Our employees are our greatest asset, and we are investing in our new employees by providing robust training and on-the-job support,” the postal service's news release stated.

Anyone interested in applying must be 18, able to pass a criminal background investigation and be available to work weekends and holidays.
