Lafayette Parish School System names Ryan Martin principal at Paul Breaux Middle School

Lafayette Parish School System announced the appointment of Ryan Martin as the permanent principal of Paul Breaux Middle School.

“I am honored that Superintendent Touchet has the faith and confidence in my abilities to guide Paul Breaux Middle in this next school year and the years to come," Martin said in a news release. "Since coming to Paul Breaux in January, I have been welcomed with open arms by the faculty and students and we look forward to doing great things on our campus.”

Martin has served as acting principal of Paul Breaux Middle School since January. During his time as principal, the school received attention in March due to the movement of the gifted program and the French Emersion Program from the middle school. The Lafayette Parish School Board voted March 13 to relocate Paul Breaux's French and Spanish immersion programs, as well as the gifted program, to other middle schools in the parish.

Gifted students will go to Edgar Martin Middle School. Both of the immersion programs are heading to Scott Middle School.

His administrative roles included dean of students at Lafayette Middle School and assistant principal at W.D. and Mary Baker Smith Career Center and Milton Elementary Middle School. Martin also served as an academic specialist for social studies districtwide. For the past four years, he has been supervisor of district improvement contributing to initiatives such as the implementing the ACT MasteryPrep program at all high schools, the Student of the Year program, LPSS Dual Enrollment program, and key components of academic programs.

Martin graduated from Northside High School in 1994 and served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. Martin holds a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
