Lafayette man shot early Sunday after answering his door

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Juan Aguilar-Tapia stepped outside to speak with a man and woman who knocked on his mobile home's door about 3:50 a.m. Sunday, and the man shot Aguilar-Tapia in the stomach, according to police.

There were several people inside the mobile home at 79 Bordeaux Blvd., who watched from inside the home when Aguilar-Tapia stepped outside, police said. The people inside the home did not recognize the man and woman.

As Aguilar-Tapia spoke with the man, he pulled a gun and shot him in the stomach, then the man and woman ran off, police said.

Aguilar-Tapia was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He remained sedated Monday afternoon, and detectives have not spoke with him about the shooting.
