Lafayette authorities seize over $1 million worth of narcotics

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette authorities reported they seizure over $1 million worth of narcotics, guns and currency in a joint operation.

On Tuesday, Lafayette Police Department narcotics agents, Lafayette Police Narcotics Street Teams, DEA and Louisiana State Police said they executed two search warrants in regards to a long-term investigation. Officials said the first search warrant was executed in the 100 block of Syrup Row by LPD narcotics agents and LDP SWAT, and the second warrant was executed in the 400 block of Lancaster Drive by LPD narcotics agents, DEA, LSP and LSP SWAT.

Authorities said the search warrants resulted in the following:

  • 2 kilograms of cocaine (street value of $200,000)

  • 2.3 kilograms of methaphetamine (street value of $460,000)

  • 2.25 kilograms of fentanyl (street value of $902,800)

  • 22 grams of marijuana (street value of $400)

  • Two kilogram presses

  • One electric mixer

  • Four handguns (one stolen)

  • $9,100 in US currency

  • Assorted drug paraphernalia

  • 2018 Honda Accord

In addition to the items seized, two suspects were arrested who officials have identified as Trayvon Charles, 33, and Jakaylen Charles, 25. The two suspects were booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

Trayvon Charles, 33

  • Distribution of Fentanyl (6 counts)

  • Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl

  • Possession with intent to distribute marijuana

  • Possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS (2 counts)

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (2 counts)

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Monies derived from drug proceeds

Lafayette man charged with negligent homicide in Thursday crash

Jakaylen Charles, 25

  • Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine

  • Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl

  • Possession with intent to distribute cocaine

  • Possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS

  • Possession of a stolen firearm

Officials said the total seizure value is estimated to be approximately $1,572, 300.
