Lady Gaga breaks 20 million Twitter fans barrier

Eccentric pop star Lady Gaga now has more than 20 million followers on Twitter, pushing her further ahead of her nearest Twitter rivals.

According to social media monitoring site socialbakers.com, Lady Gaga broke the 20 million followers barrier over the weekend of March 4-5.

Currently, as of 10:30 GMT March 5, Lady Gaga (@Lady Gaga) has 20,085,304 followers, is following 139,662 people and has sent 1,294 tweets. 

Lady Gaga's last post on the microblogging site was an endorsement of Bruce Springsteen and read "Did ANYONE see SPRINGSTEEN on Fallon last night!!! Buy his new album. It is so genius its hard to even believe. Just mind-blowing passion."

Her closest competitor in terms of Twitter followers is the teenage pop star Justin Bieber, who currently has slightly over 18 million followers, followed by Katy Perry (+15 million), Shakira (+14 million) and Rihanna (+14 million).

Despite Lady Gaga's dominance of Twitter she lags behind Justin Bieber and Rihanna in terms of YouTube popularity, and on Facebook she is behind Eminem and Rihanna, both of whom have in excess of 50 million Facebook fans.
