Lady Falcons win double conference crowns

Feb. 13—SANFORD — Lee Christian won the Mid-Carolina Conference Tournament championship, to go beside the Lady Falcons' undefeated season championship, fittingly beating county rival Grace Christan, 53-37, at Lee Christian on Friday night.

It was fitting as the neighbors were the top two seeds in the Mid-Carolina season. It was fitting as, while Lee Christian took both regular-season match-ups in the rivalry this season, Grace Christian was still the squad which knocked Lee Christian out of the conference tournament and state tournament last February.

Freshman center Kelyce McSwain led the Lady Falcons in the final with 21 points and eight rebounds.

When the Lady Falcons and the Lady Crusaders were trading the momentum and slim leads through part of the first half, McSwain and teammate Taylor Woods were the difference in the lane to give the Lady Falcons the advantage for good.

Reily Johnson's three-pointer and Jordan Langston making a driving, then fade-away short jumper edged Lee Christian (12-5) ahead 8-6.

The Lady Crusaders did fine with a battle of jump shots. Kayden Michael's jumper was the last hoop of the first quarter and Grace Christian led 11-10.
