Lacombe drug busts, traffic stops lead to six arrests

LACOMBE, La. (WGNO) — Six people were arrested following drug busts and traffic stops in the Lacombe area on Saturday, March 23.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a home in the 2000 block of West Spruce Street after receiving a report of alleged drug sales in the area.

At the home, STPSO deputies said they found 45-year-old Shashamby Diaz and searched the home.

During the search, STPSO detectives said they found about 8.25 grams of marijuana, about 10.91 grams of cocaine, about 3.89 grams of fentanyl, about five dosage units of Subutex, “assorted drug paraphernalia indicative of narcotics sales and use, including digital scales and unused plastic baggies” and two guns.

Diaz was arrested and faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II CDS (cocaine), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II CDS (fentanyl), possession of Schedule III CDS (Subutex), possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of a firearm in presence of a CDS.

According to the STPSO, another resident, identified by deputies as 36-year-old Ahmad Batiste, “was not present at the time of the initial search, was later located at the residence and arrested.”

Ahmad Batiste faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II CDS (cocaine), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II CDS (fentanyl), possession of Schedule III CDS (Subutex), possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of a firearm in presence of a CDS, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest.

After leaving the home, STPSO officials said deputies pulled over a man, identified by the STPSO as 66-year-old David Williams, on North Pontchartrain Drive for a traffic stop.

During the stop, STPSO detectives said Williams “had seven failure to appear attachments.”

Williams was arrested and faces charges of possession of stolen things, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule I CDS, possession of Schedule II CDS and refusal to identify.

After the traffic stop, STPSO detectives responded to Shirley Sweet Shop Road after receiving a report of alleged drug sales in the area.

While patrolling the area, deputies said they came into contact with 41-year-old Crystal Batiste.

Crystal Batiste was arrested and faces charges of possession of a Schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession of Schedule II CDS (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The STPSO reported deputies performed another traffic stop on Sycamore Street, where they came into contact with 28-year-old Daniel Hopkins and 40-year-old Heather Sharp.

Following an investigation, STPSO detectives said they found that Hopkins and Sharp were allegedly in possession of about 3.8 grams of suspected fentanyl.

Hopkins was arrested and faces charges of possession of Schedule II (fentanyl) and possession of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile.

STPSO officials said Hopkins was also issued a summons on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, improper equipment, driving under suspension and two counts of failure to register vehicle.

Sharp was arrested and faces charges of possession of Schedule II (fentanyl) and possession of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile.
