Lackawanna County's write-in vote count nearly complete

May 24—Lackawanna County election workers are nearly finished counting almost 26,000 write-in votes cast in last week's primary election, a process likely to wrap up Tuesday.

About 90% of the 25,926 total write-ins were tallied by the end of business hours Monday, county Director of Elections Beth Hopkins said. Officials already reviewed the 117 provisional ballots cast in the primary, which county IT staff will enter into the election system when the write-ins are finished to produce a complete count.

The department hopes to release complete results Tuesday, Hopkins said, noting those results are unofficial until certified by the county election board. A board vote to certify the results is expected in early June.
