Lackawanna County Heritage Fair opens on Montage Mountain

Jun. 1—SCRANTON — Ashley Ross and her three boys were among the first families through the gate Thursday as the Lackawanna County Heritage Fair opened on Montage Mountain.

Returning for its third year, the four-day event, which runs through Sunday, offers fairgoers access to Montage's waterpark, carnival rides and games, food vendors, live entertainment and more.

Ross' older sons were eager to get wet, with Trenton, 9, looking forward to a float on the lazy river and Keatyn, 6, anxious to make a splash anywhere he could.

"I'm excited to go in the water," Keatyn said, sharing a common sentiment among those enjoying the sunshine and high temperatures that marked the fair's first day.

Others, including Ross' 3-year-old son, Paxton, were eager to hop on the Ferris wheel and explore the midway.

"We go every year," Scranton resident Kerstan Bonning said shortly after entering the fair with her kids, Richie, 10, Liam, 8, and Micah, 3. "It's so cheap compared to everything theses days. You get everything."

The fair is open Friday from noon to 10 p.m., 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. The waterpark closes 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday.

Officials expect to see 30,000 people attend the fair this year.
