Lackawanna College honors latest graduating class at 130th commencement

Lackawanna College awarded 89 bachelor’s degrees, 414 associate degrees and 22 certificates at its 130th commencement in the Student Union building in downtown Scranton.

Jordan Potenziani of Hawley presented the valedictory address.

“I think that the biggest thing I’ve learned during my time in college is that perseverance pays off. I used to be the type of person to start something, and give up on it if I wasn’t great at it within a couple of weeks. At Lackawanna I had friends and teachers willing to help me whenever I was stuck, and over time it helped me realize that if you just keep pushing at something you will eventually reach your goal,” Potenziani said.

Potenziani earned her bachelor’s degree in business from Lackawanna. In her time at the college she was a member of Student Leadership, Phi Theta Kappa and AICUP Student Advocacy, and was a certified peer educator. Through the college’s Lake Region Center, Potenziani earned an internship at Forthright Wealth Planning, where she now works full time. Potenziani plans to continue working in finance and is considering a career as an insurance agent or investment adviser representative. She is also considering furthering her education.

Jill Murray, Ph.D., and Erica Barone Pricci, Ph.D., addressed graduates at the ceremony and conferred degrees to candidates. Adrienne Asbury, dean of curriculum and faculty affairs, and Kelly Musti, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of health sciences, helped present degrees.
