Labette County farmers find silver lining in weekend rainstorms
BARTLETT, Kan. — Excessive rainfall over the weekend caused significant flooding issues for many – however for some it was beneficial.
Bartlett Co-op Association location manager Walter Eck says locally – the weekend storms didn’t have too much of an impact.
He says parts of Labette County saw three to four inches of rain – which was a big help to some farmers.

He says over the last couple years – the area has experienced a moderate drought.
“Ponds got filled back up and didn’t affect most of the crop. Some of the low-lying crops had some water on them for a little while. The river’s still rising, so we’re still seeing some moderate flooding in the river bottoms, the crops, and the river bottoms. But it looks like it’s probably going to be up and down pretty quickly. So it shouldn’t affect the crops in the river bottom too much,” said Walter Eck, Bartlett Co-op Association location manager.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Labette County through this Friday.
