L’Jarius Sneed, Zarda BBQ donate $17K to Big Brothers Big Sisters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Earlier this year, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed challenged fans to help him raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City.

That challenge is paying off big.

Tuesday morning, Sneed presented a check to Big Brothers Big Sisters KC for $17,500.

Sneed partnered with Zarda BBQ and Hyvee to create a sandwich called the “KC Takeaway.” The sandwich was sold during the football season at Zarda BBQ and KC-area Hyvee stores, with all proceeds going to the Kansas City non-profit.

“When I was little, I wish I had the help,” Sneed said at the event. “Just to see kids struggling nowadays, I got the opportunity to help. I have a big heart and that’s what I like to do.”

This was the second season for Sneed’s sandwich, which launched during the fall of 2022 after being test-launched at the Chiefs training camp.

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl two years in a row and so was “KC Takeaway,” which raised just as much money for Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City this year than last year. Money raised from the sandwich will stay in Kansas City to help match kids who need or want a mentor.
