L’Oréal Ukraine announces launch of 6th season of L'Oréal-Unesco Award “For Women in Science"

Despite progress in gender equality worldwide, women remain underrepresented in scientific research, making up only 33.3% of researchers. They continue to face barriers to career advancement and recognition of their achievements. For example, since 1901, when the Nobel Prize was established, just 26 of the 640 honorees in physics, chemistry, and medicine have been women.

To promote gender equality and scientific advancement, the L'Oréal Foundation launched the "For Women in Science" program with UNESCO in 1998. The program strives to empower women in science, highlight exceptional research, and help talented female scientists gain recognition for their contributions.

The Ukrainian For Women in Science award has been supported by L'Oréal Ukraine since 2018 and is part of the global L'Oréal-UNESCO partnership program. It is implemented under the patronage of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, with support from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the NGO Center for Corporate Social Responsibility Development.

Over the years, 15 female scientists from Ukraine have been honored through the International L'Oréal-UNESCO Award "For Women in Science." Last year, the number of Nobel laureates among the award recipients rose to seven, underscoring the success of our collective efforts to advance women in science. This recognition presents a valuable opportunity to promote Ukrainian scientific research internationally.
