Ky. company in dispute over new turkey call

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Build a better turkey call and the birds — as well as competitors — will flock to your door.

Down-N-Dirty Outdoors discovered as much when it unveiled a new air-blown turkey gobble call and started to put it on the competitive outdoors equipment market last year. Hunters loved it because birds responded. Competitors wanted it because it sold.

Now, the Lewisburg, Ky.-based company is suing a rival, saying it stole its unique design and marketing an identical product of its own. Down-N-Dirty wants a judge to stop one of its top competitors, Hale & Knight Game Calls, and two related companies from selling a similar product.

Andrew Palmer, an attorney for Down-N-Dirty, declined to comment.

Messages left for Hale & Knight over the course of two weeks were not returned.
