[1] APD investigating police shooting near Central and Mesilla – APD is investigating a police shooting that happened Thursday night near Central and Mesilla. Police say an officer approached a man on the sidewalk when drugs fell out of his pocket. The suspect then took off on foot and the officer chased after him. During the chase the officer discharged his firearm. He informed dispatch the suspect pointed a gun at him. The suspect was later taken into custody. A gun was not found on the suspect at the time. Police are searching the area for the weapon. No one was injured in the shooting.

[2] Motion hearing for Alec Baldwin in fatal shooting of cinematographer – A hearing is scheduled in the case against Alec Baldwin in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin is charged with involuntary manslaughter and is set to go on trial in Santa Fe County this summer. The actors legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the indictment, citing claims of the prosecution violating several rules. Friday’s motion hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m.

[3] Warmer, drier weekend around New Mexico – Friday will be a drier and warmer day. Temperatures will climb back to normal for mid-May, and skies will stay mostly sunny. On Saturday, skies will start sunny, but clouds will move into central and northern New Mexico during the afternoon and evening. Sunday will be a fully sunny, but the winds will start to pick up during the afternoon, to around 20 to 40 mph.

[4] New Mexico’s AG says crime victims need more support – Thursday, Attorney General Raul Torrez said more money is needed for rapid DNA analysis equipment. Torrez also wants to change public records laws, to expose problems with the pretrial release system. He is also asking for money to fund a new crime victim advocacy office. New Mexico lawmakers are preparing to meet for a special lawmaking session in July.

[5] ‘Spot the Robot Dog’ visits Española elementary school – Students at Tony E. Quintana Elementary School were introduced to ‘Spot’ the Robotic Dog. Some students even got to try their hand at controlling Spot around the gym. Spot is one of five robotic dogs at Los Alamos National Labs.
