[1] NM United speaks with community about concerns over planned new stadium – At a public meeting Wednesday, New Mexico United addressed community concerns for a proposed stadium. The team and the city announced plans to move forward with the stadium in September. In November, the city council approved the lease agreement. Neighbors filed an appeal last month, claiming they were excluded from the conversation, causing the city to take a step back. At the public meeting, United shared how designers plan to address neighbors’ concerns about noise, lights and traffic. New Mexico United will hold another public meeting on March 20.

[2] First murder trial against Muhammad Syed continues – Muhammad Syed is accused shooting and killing Aftab Hussein, Mohammud Azfaal Hussain and Neaeem Hussein in Albuquerque in 2022. In the trial for the murder of Aftab Hussein, Syed is accused of shooting and killing him outside of his apartment. The state called a witness to the stand who went to school with Syed’s son and knew his daughter. She testified that she saw Syed the day of the shooting in a car at the apartment complex. The defense then questioned Detective Eric Beckstrom, focusing on what Beckstrom didn’t find, including matching fingerprints and tire marks. This trial is the first of three murder trials against Syed.

[3] Quiet weather before rain, snow and wind arrives Thursday night – A cold front will move into northeast New Mexico today, bringing snow and rain to northern areas. The rest of the state will be dry until this evening and overnight. The cold front will push into the Rio Grande Valley late tonight, bringing strong winds and more widespread rain and snow to the state. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories will go into effect today through Saturday morning for the mountains, where a few inches to nearly two feet of snow will fall. Friday will be a snowy and rainy day, with worsening road conditions in higher elevations.

[4] Sandia Peak Tram reopening – The Sandia Peak Tram is reopening Thursday. The tram has been closed for last couple of months for repairs and upgrades. Crews updated the 1960s-era controls that send the carts up and down the mountain and installed technology that will help maintenance teams better inspect and troubleshoot problems more easily. Other improvements include adding weather technology to both towers, tram cars and terminals. Starting at 9 a.m. there will be a a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours, live music, coffee and food.

[5] 28th annual ‘Girls Can’ STEM event to be held Saturday in Las Cruces – Hundreds of middle school girls are coming together to get first-hand experience in science, technology, engineering, and math-related careers. Several organizations are coming together to host the 28th annual Girls Can event on March 23, at the Doña Ana Community College. Their goal is to increase equal education opportunities for all women.
