[1] VIDEO: Deputies find dead 5-year-old during Silver City callout – The parents of the 5-year-old girl found dead in Silver City this March are now facing felony charges. Music Adame, 34, and 38-year-old Matthew Bynum have each been accused of multiple child abuse charges for the death of their child, Xaqueline Bynum.
[2] Roswell to host National Championship Air Races beginning in 2025 – Thousands of airplane enthusiasts will soon be flocking to New Mexico after the City of Roswell was chosen to host the National Championship Air Races next year. Officials say the event, which has been hosted in Reno, Nevada brought in an estimated $100 million annually. The event will be in Reno this year but will come to Roswell in September 2025.
[3] Windy start to this weekend – It’s a quiet and seasonable start to this Friday morning across the state. Wind gusts this afternoon will pick up to 20-35 mph, similar to yesterday. Highs will be in the 90s south, 80s across central New Mexico, and 70s to the north/west. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Northeast Highlands from 3-7 PM this evening. There are three active wildfires (Moser, Blue 2, and Indios) and prescribed burns which will likely bring smoke to parts of the state this afternoon.
[4] City of Santa Fe unveils resolution to give homes to two controversial statues – Two historical and controversial monuments could soon be going back on display in Santa Fe. In 2020, the City of Santa Fe removed a monument in Cathedral Park depicting the Spanish conquistador Diego de Vargas. Mayor Alan Webber and city councilors are proposing to send that statue to a new temporary house at the New Mexico History Museum. The proposal also includes the display of a second statue, honoring the other side of the conflict depicting two Tesuque runners who alerted other tribes about the uprising against the Spanish.
[5] The city of Albuquerque is planning to hold a soft opening of all city pools on Saturday, May 25 through Memorial Day. Outdoor pools will close May 28-31 for staff training. However, the pools will open back up on June 1.
