[1] NMDOJ investigating complaints about Bernalillo County Commission – The New Mexico Department of Justice is investigating claims that the Bernalillo County Commission violated meeting rules. The commission recently passed a resolution outlining a new county manager selection process. Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada claims he and commissioner Walt Benson had no say in the process. Complaints say the majority of commissioners discussed and agreed to the proposed process before the meeting. The NMDOJ is investigating whether the board violated the state’s open meetings act. The board is being asked to submit all communication made between commission members prior to the meeting relating to the selection process.

[2] Parents question how dancer was invited to perform at high school prom – Parents are wondering how a provocative dancer dressed in drag was invited to perform at the school’s prom. Atrisco Heritage Academy High School hosted its prom and a video began circulating from the prom showing a drag performer dancing. KRQE News 13 spoke to some parents who say the entertainment was inappropriate. The performer says they were invited, not hired to perform. In a letter to parents, the school district says they are investigating the incident.

[3] Windy weather with some showers and cooler temperatures – Sunshine is expected statewide until midday, and then more clouds and showers will build into northwest New Mexico. There will be a chance for showers and storms in the west mountains, Four Corners and northern mountains, but the rest of the state will stay dry. The winds will be very gusty from late this morning, until late this evening. High wind warnings and wind advisories will be in effect today for all of eastern and southern New Mexico, where 55 to 65 mph wind gusts are expected.

[4] UNMH Lifeguard program expands fleet to help respond to more calls – The Lifeguard Program at UNMH is expanding in hopes of saving more lives across the state. The program has been serving the entire state by getting critical care patients to and from hospitals. They fly with physicians that are trained as clinical team members. Each team can easily transition from helicopter to plane, to ambulance. Last year, Lifeguard responded to more than 4,500 calls. The program director says they are hoping to add another plane in the fall and will be hiring for more pilots and nurses to help fill the new plane.

[5] Albuquerque nonprofit that neuters stray cats hopes to expand operation – Albuquerque nonprofit “Street Cat Hub” is working to reduce the number of unfixed cats roaming the city. The organization traps stray cats, neuters them, and returns them to where they were found. They say they service four to six thousand cats per year. The group is hoping to double its impact and recently appeared before Albuquerque City Council to advocate to keep up the funding. The group is seeking volunteers to help trap cats and monitor them while they recover from surgery.
