[1] Prosecution in ‘Rust’ trial responds to Alec Baldwin’s motion to dismiss indictment – Alec Baldwin has asked a judge to dismiss the charges against him for the deadly shooting on the movie set of Rust in 2021. Now the prosecution is responding to Baldwin’s request to throw out his indictment. They highlighted times they claimed Baldwin lacked concern for safety on set, lost his temper, and rushed production. Prosecutors said Baldwin was making inappropriate calls after the shooting and also claim he wasn’t following directions immediately before the shooting happened. Prosecutors point out that Baldwin has done several interviews with national media and OSHA and say his story changes over time. Baldwin’s trial on an involuntary manslaughter charge is set to begin on July 10. No date has been set on the motion.
[2] Man who drove drunk into Gallup parade injuring 15 will not face any more jail time – Jeff Irving pled no-contest to two counts of great bodily harm and two counts of aggravated DWI in February and faced up to six and a half years behind bars. Judge Douglas Decker sentenced Irving to those six and a half years, but then suspended the whole sentence in lieu of five years probation and rehabilitation in a men’s recovery program. Irving drove his SUV while drunk through a crowded parade in Gallup in August of 2022, injuring more than a dozen people. His case originally had 21 counts against him, but he pled down to these four. Irving was in jail since the crash for a total of 612 days.
[3] Gusty winds, heavy rain and mountain snow Tuesday – As easterly winds come in over the Sandia’s, we will see strong gusts up to 55 mph in the middle Rio Grande Valley and south-central mountains throughout the morning and midday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible all day in east/southeast New Mexico, and up to 1.50 inches of rain accumulation will be possible. Other areas like the Rio Grande Valley, northern and western mountains will only see lighter, isolated showers possible today. The Sacramento Mountains will see snowfall, and around 2 to 5 inches will be possible.
[4] Rio Rancho family learns of father’s service during WW2, receives his service medals – A New Mexico family is honoring their late father after discovering he was a war hero. Joseph Radosevich died nearly 40 years ago. At the time of his passing, his family did not know much about his time in the navy. After Radosevich’s son did some research he found his dad served from 1941 through 1952 on three ships, including the USS Hancock, and was involved in various battles across the Phillippines and Japan. Radosevich reached out to Senator Ben Ray Lujan who worked with the Navy to get Joseph’s service medals.
[5] Veteran donates glasses to colorblind Rio Rancho students – 15 colorblind Rio Rancho students were given special classes to help them see. The glasses were donated from veteran Ron Neldon. This is the third year Neldon purchased the glasses for students. While people with normal color vision see over 1,000,000 hues and shades, colorblind people can only see an estimated 10% of them. As a result, colors can appear dull and difficult to discern.
