Speaking to Town and Country magazine, the now 33-year-old actress argued that there is a contradiction in the fact we expect actors to be in touch with their emotions while also expecting them to put on a brave face all the time.

“What people expect of an actor is totally ridiculous,” she told the publication.

“It’s unfair that an artist is expected to speak really well in public and have skin tough enough to withstand sometimes really hurtful criticism, but also, in order to do the job, be really sensitive and in touch with their feelings.”

“So all you can do is be yourself - just be who the hell you are.”

Well said and hear, hear.

The then 27-year-old voluntarily checked herself into a treatment centre admitting that she was struggling with depression.

As the magazine’s September cover star the in-depth interview also got Kirsten talking about all sorts of Hollywood issues – including the apparent Tinsel Town ‘boy’s club’.

However, the star definitely reckons that there’s room for plenty of strong women in that:

“You know what? I felt that way when I was younger, particularly being on the Spider-Man sets, which was pretty much all guys. But the older I get, the less I feel that way. What I’ve found is that the cool guys now want to hang out with the cool girls.”

And Kirsten is most certainly one of those.
