For the New York Knicks’ Monday night matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers, Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis — who last year signed a footwear and apparel deal with Adidas that made him the highest-paid European sneaker endorser in NBA history — showed off to ESPN’s Nick DePaula a special new version of the Adidas Crazy Explosive player edition sneaker that he’d rock on the court at Madison Square Garden against fellow Adidas endorser Damian Lillard and the Blazers. Listen, I’m not much of a sartorialist. But when it comes to wearable representations of the nickname given to the rising Latvian star by Kevin Durant — one that took on a life of its own as it became the premier way to define a slew of multifaceted young big men changing the game on a nighty basis — I think it’s fair to call these kicks an upgrade over that somewhat unsettling Halloween mask.
