Kraft Recalls 96,000 Pounds of Hot Dogs
Kraft is recalling 96,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer hots dogs because they are contained in the wrong packaging. Packages supposedly containing Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners may actually contain Classic Cheese Dogs. Two different types of weiner, both apparently classic.
Though there have been no reports of adverse reactions based on the mix-up, the USDA is enforcing the recall because the cheese dogs contain cheese, which is made with milk, which is an allergen. The packaging does not state as much.
According to the USDA—in this year's most serious press release containing the phrase "classic weiners"—the classic weiners were produced in early March at a plant in Columbia, Mo. The mix-up wasn’t noticed until April 18, when a consumer notified the company. The recall is, according to Kraft, "isolated to about 8,000 cases of product that were distributed nationwide."
