Kozak named 2023 Potsdam Firefighter of the Year

Apr. 16—POTSDAM — The Potsdam Fire Department has named Jessie Kozak as its 2023 Firefighter of the Year.

He received the honor during the fire department's annual Ladies Night Banquet on April 13 at Potsdam Elks Lodge, which about 80 people attended.

Kozak was accompanied by several family members who traveled from Western New York to Potsdam. Additionally, he received the "Springarm Award" for his outstanding driving efforts.

John Keleher was once again recognized as the "Agitator of the Year" for 2023.

Three Chiefs Awards were given for exemplary service, presented to Michael Keleher, Stephen Davis and Jay Bradish.

Jessica Searles was named the 2023 Rookie of the Year.

Justin McGregor was acknowledged for his 10 years of service, along with Brendan Corbett for 20 years, Dan McGregor for 30 years, and Tim Jerome for 35 years.

"Jerome retired from the chief's rank after serving 20 years at various levels," Potsdam firefighter James Corbett said. "We extend our gratitude for his service. As a token of appreciation, he was presented with a flag and axe plaque."

"The department expresses its gratitude to the members of the Canton Fire Department, who stood by at Potsdam station, allowing our members a night out," Corbett said.

The evening's entertainment was provided by DJ Todd Truax and emceed by West Stockholm Fire Chief Torey Russell.
