Komen Columbus Race for the Cure: what to know before you go

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An annual race to help raise awareness and funds to end breast cancer returns to Columbus this weekend.

The Komen Columbus Race for the Cure is set for Saturday. The race, through the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is held with the goal to fight breast cancer while racing for those who can’t, because they are battling the disease or in honor of those who have died from it. The annual race also helps by raising money for breast cancer research, providing access to quality screenings and treatment, all while bringing the community together.

The race kicks off at North Bank Park, which is located at 311 W. Long St. in Columbus.

Below is the schedule for the race day.

  • 6:30 a.m. – Registration opens inside North Bank Pavilion

  • 7:00 a.m. – Race expo, Hope Village, VIP Tent and Food Trucks open

  • 7:30 a.m. – Warm up on Start Stage

  • 7:50 a.m. – Survivor photo behind Hope Village, Parade of Hope lines up

  • 8:10 a.m. – Opening ceremony starts, Parade of Hope kicks off

  • 8:30 a.m. – 5k Run/Walk starts, 1 Mile walk will follow

  • 11:00 a.m. – Event ends

Below is a map of parking options available for the race.

There will also be several road closures in the North Bank Park area for the race starting Saturday morning at 2 a.m. through noon. A rolling closure of the course route starts at 8:15 a.m. with most roads opening back up by 10:15 a.m.

  • Long Street will close between High Street to the east and Hocking Street to the west.

  • Spring Street will close from West Street to the east and Hocking Street to the west.

  • Neil Avenue will close from Nationwide Boulevard on the north to the combined start/finish line to the south.

The organization is also hosting a Packet Pick Up Day on Friday, May 17 at the North Bank Park Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. That’s where you can register on site, drop off any donations and pick up a t-shirt and your race bib.
