Windows 10: Fast. Compatible. Free.

In case you missed it, Microsoft has released Windows 10 for PCs, 2-in-1 devices, and tablets on July 29, 2015 in 190 countries. We’ve written about the new OS during its first unveiling, and the various features Microsoft has added since then, so the biggest PC OS release since Windows 8 (well, some say since Windows 95) shouldn’t be too unfamiliar to those who have been following our site.

Still, if you're a Mac to PC switcher or Windows users who skipped Windows 8/8.1 entirely, it's only natural that you're still confused with Microsoft's latest OS. If so, the very first thing you need to know is that Windows 10 is a free upgrade for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices. But you’d better hurry, as this offer only lasts for a year.

To delve deeper, here are three articles that we recommend you check out next:

  • The Windows 10 FAQ: This article covers common topics such as Windows 10's system requirements, its pricing model, what it means when people say that Windows is now a service.

For those hungry for more, do check out the column on the right, where we've curated a list of other interesting reads related to Windows 10 and its ecosystem. Because remember, Windows 10 will also run on phones, Xbox One, and IoT devices. And since Windows 10 is also about increasing productivity, you may be interested to know about the latest Microsoft Office developments.

And just recently, Microsoft released new Surface devices and Lumia phones that will further tap into the capabilities of Windows 10. The new Surface Pro 4 is an updated version of last year's very popular Surface Pro 3 tablet, while Microsoft is calling its Surface Book the "ultimate laptop". The new Lumia phones are also impressive, especially if you are big on productivity - thanks to the combination of the Microsoft Display Dock, Office Mobile apps, and Continuum.

These are truly exciting times for Microsoft and it looks like all the effort that they have put into creating a universal Windows experience across both traditional desktop machines and modern touch-enabled mobile devices is paying off.
