Do you know how much your Brevard elected officials make? We'll tell you.

My youngest son was learning about government in school recently and had to make selections for various political positions.

President – “Mommy: she’s very kind”

Governor – “Neil: He’s a little crazy but he can handle it.”

Mayor – “Gio: he’s nice, kind and helpful.”

We of course spent some time acknowledging how “very kind” I am and how Neil sounds like the perfect politician. But then the conversation turned more political.

My two older children joined the discussion and eventually they asked if these politicians get paid. That led to a little research and some surprised reactions at these elected officials’ salaries.

How much does the President make?

If my son’s predictions come true, I would be making $400,000 a year.

Neil would bring home $134,181. Gio’s salary would depend on what city he was the mayor of.

If he was the mayor of Melbourne he would bring home $10,350 per year, plus a monthly expense allowance of $415.  Titusville would pay $15,038.40.

Farther south in Palm Bay, the mayor gets $22,781 annually. West Melbourne’s mayor makes $12,353.04 annually.

Some of the county's smaller cities don't pay their mayors or council members at all.
