What to know: 'Empress of Soul' Gladys Knight to perform a concert in Spartanburg

Legendary performer Gladys Knight will entertain fans with her extensive catalog of music this weekend in Spartanburg.

Knight will make a concert stop at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, 385 N. Church St.

Tickets to Sunday's 7:30 p.m. show are still available starting at $49.50 with seating in the orchestra and balcony level sections.

Knight also known as the "Empress of Soul," is a multitalented artist with hits in pop, gospel and R&B genres.

"We are beyond excited to bring the 'Empress of Soul' to Spartanburg," said Lyndsey Drakulic, director of marketing for the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. "You don't get that name for no reason, so we're looking forward to her performance."

Who is Gladys Knight?

Knight, a seven-time Grammy Award winner and Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient, is most notably revered for her time at Motown Records alongside groupmates "The Pips" until the late 1970s.

Beginning as an opening act for Diana Ross and The Supreme's, Knight's musical ascension continued as her solo career began in 1978 with hit records apart of her catalog such as "If I Were Your Woman," "Neither One of Us" and "Daddy Could Swear."

Her most recent album was released in 2014 titled "Where My Heart Belongs," and in that same year, Knight was awarded the Black Entertainment Television (BET) "Lifetime Achievement Award."

Where else will Knight be performing

Knight's untitled tour begins in the Palmetto state as she begins on consecutive dates beginning Feb. 23 in Columbia and Myrtle Beach before arriving in Spartanburg on Feb. 25.

While the remainder of her tour includes stops in California, Nevada and Rhode Island, the majority of her show dates are in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Here's what not to bring to Gladys Knight concert

Per the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium show guidelines for Gladys Knight, some items are prohibited including:

  • The Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium has a clear bag policy that only accepts totes, plastic zip top bags, and small clutch purses. A full list of prohibited items can be found here.

  • The Auditorium refuses video and audio recorders, or professional cameras, knives or weapons.

  • Smoking, knives and firearms are not allowed.
