KLFY’s Gerald Gruenig among those honored by American Cancer Society

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – The American Cancer Society has announced its 2024 Spirit of Hope Honorees, who will be recognized during the annual Black & White Gala on August 24. The event raised a record-breaking $341,693 to fund the programs that are changing the lives of cancer patients and their families in 2023.

KLFY’s own Gerald Gruenig is among 11 honorees for the 2024 Spirit of Hope presented by The American Cancer Society.

The 11 honorees for this year have diverse positions in the community, including cancer survivors, doctors and caregivers. the honorees for 2024 are:

  • Dr. Sweekriti Adhikari

  • Carlos Boudreaux

  • State Senator Gerald Boudreaux

  • Carolyn Livings-Cluse

  • Sophie Gil

  • Gerald Gruenig

  • Kathy Ladner

  • Dr. Jacob Landry

  • Dr. Elizabeth LeJeune

  • Andrew Smith

  • Dr. Molly Thomas

  • Josiah Brevis (posthumous)

“We are humbled to be able to create a space for these individuals to be celebrated by our community for their incredible accomplishments and impactful stories,” said Kristin Franks, Senior Development Manager of the American Cancer Society – South Region. “All of our Spirit of Hope Honorees embody resilience and leadership. This is why they deserve such recognition for their courage and successes in the face of immense adversity.”

“Last year, I had the opportunity to share my cancer journey as a Spirit of Hope Honoree. And now, as chair, I’m honored to be part of sharing the story of each honoree,” stated Michelle Hanks, Chair for the 2024 Black & White Gala. “I’ve seen the organization’s impact in a community like ours here in Acadiana, especially in supporting the individuals who inspire or help make a difference for those battling this disease. This is why storytelling is an important part of this event. It fills my heart with joy to see the Black & White Gala shine a light on these honorees.”

The event on Aug. 24 will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton.
