Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended lower today, prompted by selling activities in selected heavyweights and penny stocks.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished 5.79 points lower at 1,808.31 after hovering between 1,806.73 and 1,816.06 throughout the day.
Market breadth was negative as losers outnumbered gainers 544 to 228, while 316 counters were unchanged, 481 untraded and 15 others were suspended.
Volume fell to 1.520 billion shares worth RM2.023 billion from 1.839 billion shares valued at RM2.135 billion yesterday.
Bearish performance of the local market was also in tandem with its regional peers following slowing down manufacturing activities in China for the first time in six months.
Investors are also cautious awaiting leads from the US Federal Reserve on whether the central bank will reduce its stimulus programme next week, said a dealer.
Japan's Nikkei 225 shed 0.79 per cent to 15,695.89, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slid 1.51 per cent to 22,733.9 and Singapore's Straits Times fell 0.98 per cent to 3,102.88.
On heavyweights, Maybank and Maxis were flat at RM9.76 and RM7, respectively, while TNB declined two sen to RM11.50, CIMB slipped 21 sen to RM6.80 and Axiata lost seven sen to RM6.53.
On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index surged 60.33 points to 8,583.2, the Industrial Index was 10.89 points lower at 3,073.77 and the Finance Index lost 116.66 points to 16,478.95.
The FBM Emas Index went down 40.93 points to 12,507.42, FBMT100 Index slid 37.03 points to 12,220.79, FBM Ace eased 107.15 points to 5,866.75 and the FBM 70 dipped 34.02 points to 13,874.03.
The Main Market volume eased to 1.185 billion units worth RM1.932 billion from yesterday's 1.443 billion units worth RM2.057 billion.
Turnover on the ACE market reduced to 290.65 million shares valued at RM83.116 million from 358.57 million shares valued at RM71.801 million yesterday.
Warrants rose to 39.90 million units worth RM4.623 million from 31.86 million units worth RM2.403 million.
On a sectoral basis, consumer products accounted for 214.52 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 250.85 million, construction 54.29 million, trade and services 311.406 million, technology 28.57 million, infrastructure 59.37 million, SPAC 13.435 million, finance 73.15 million, hotels
