KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower in early session today in tandem with lower Wall Street overnight, as sentiment was affected by the crash of the Malaysia Airline's plane in the Ukraine-Russia border.
The S&P 500 fell 1.18 per cent to 1,958.12, Dow Industrial eased 0.94 per cent to 16,976.81 and the Nasdaq composite index slid 1.41 per cent to 4,363.45.
At 9.20am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 9.94 points lower at 1,873.2 after opening 8.53 points easier at 1,874.2.
Losers thumped gainers 479 to 48 with 165 counters unchanged, 947 untraded and 37 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 492.07 million shares worth RM179.29 million.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index decreased 69.59 points to 17,489.43, Plantation Index fell 17.62 points to 9,028.25 and the Industrial Index shed 30.72 points to 3,234.79.
The FBM Emas Index slipped 81.85 points to 13,056.69, FBMT100 Index fell 75.21 points to 12,655.57, FBM Ace declined 92.25 points to 6,786.38 and the FBM 70 lost 116.27 points to 14,350.72.
Among actives, Minetech Resources gained 1.5 sen to 14.5 sen and Flonic Hi-Tec added half-a-sen to eight sen.
MAS was three sen lower to 19.5 sen, Sumatec declined 1.5 sen to 40.5 sen and Talam Transform edged down half-a-sen to 11 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank declined five sen to RM9.95, Public Bank eased four sen to RM20.10, TNB lost 10 sen to RM12.20 and Axiata eased three sen to RM6.91.-- Bernama
