Kingsport PD: NC murder suspect released from hospital

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – A North Carolina murder suspect who was arrested after a pursuit in Kingsport has been released from the hospital, according to police.

The Kingsport Police Department (KPD) confirmed Wednesday that Dennis Jerome Sales was released from the hospital and then booked back into the Kingsport City Jail.

Sales faces a slew of charges, including being a fugitive from justice for first-degree murder in Mocksville, North Carolina. He also is charged with felony evading arrest, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and possession of Schedule II drugs for resale.

Sales was arrested Wednesday morning after leading Kingsport police on a pursuit on John B. Dennis Highway and E. Stone Drive. Officers report they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the red Toyota Camry he was driving after learning he was accused of the murder.

During the pursuit, Sales reportedly reached speeds over 100 miles per hour and pretended to present a weapon to officers after the Camry was run off the road near Ollis Bowers Hill Road.

He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, the KPD reported. Police also reported finding two bags of a white powder inside the car and another with white residue.

According to the KPD, Sales told police later at the jail that he had ingested drugs and seemed to be having an overdose. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

News Channel 11’s sister station in High Point, NC reports Sales’s murder charge stems from the shooting death of Jade Marie Sales, 34, of Mocksville. According to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, Jade Sales was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds Tuesday.
