King's Court fire destroys house; residents displaced

Apr. 24—TRAVERSE CITY — A late afternoon fire destroyed a residence in the King's Court complex Wednesday.

No one was injured, Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jon Morgan said.

Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department Chief Paul Mackin said they were dispatched to the scene on Treelane Drive in Garfield Township to find a double-wide mobile home ablaze.

By the time the 911 call came in at 4:52 p.m., Morgan said the fire was already "pretty heavily involved," causing a carport to collapse and spreading to the vehicle parked underneath.

Another neighboring residence was exposed to the fire, Mackin said, but firefighters were able to keep those hot spots from igniting into a second fire.

It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to contain the blaze and about an hour and a half before all hot spots and flames were fully extinguished, Mackin said.

All of the residents and their pets were outside by the time the structure became engulfed in flames, the chief confirmed.

He described the current condition of the house as "uninhabitable" and said the "occupants have been displaced."

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Mackin said.
