King Charles to Resume Royal Duties After Cancer Diagnosis

King Charles III is set to resume public appearances for the first time after his cancer diagnosis and current medical treatment.
“His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Friday.

In February, the Palace first revealed a cancer diagnosis for the 75-year-old British monarch, without specifying the nature of his illness. That followed an earlier announcement that King Charles would undergo a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate.
King Charles isn’t expected to take on a full load of royal duties as his cancer treatment is ongoing. “To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead,” Buckingham Palace stated.
King Charles will also host a state visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan in June.
“As the first anniversary of the Coronation approaches, their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year,” the statement added.
The cancer treatment for King Charles coincides with Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, revealing she, too, is battling cancer following abdominal surgery earlier this year and was undergoing a series of preventative chemotherapy treatments.
