Kim Karadashian Named Third Child Chicago West

Here's a hint: It's a bit "windy" there

Kanye and Kim Kardashian West have announced the name of their new baby girl, and it’s inspired by a real place.

The baby’s name actually comes from Kanye West’s hometown: Chicago. The couple also announced that they planned to use Chi as a nickname — pronounced “shy” not “chai” for those unfamiliar with the Windy City nickname.

Kardashian posted a link to the baby news to Twitter, which also noted Chicago West was born at 12:27 a.m. weighing 7 lbs. 6 oz.

It’s not the first time Kanye West has expressed his love for his hometown. His song “Homecoming” off his third studio album “Graduation” is also inspired by Chi-Town.

A number of well-known figures also call Chicago their hometown. Chance the Rapper, who has worked extensively with Kanye West, is from the city, as well, and has raised $2.2 million through his SocialWorks organization to help fund Chicago Public Schools’ arts programs. Michelle Obama was born and raised in Chicago, and Barack Obama settled there after law school, though he grew up mostly in Hawaii

The new name has already garnered a great deal of attention online.

Many joked that the new baby sounds like Chicago West could fit in with the lineup of NBC shows set in Chicago including Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

Actress Busy Philipps has voiced her support for the name. “Kind of obsessed with the name Chicago, tbh. BABY CHI!” she wrote.

And others were just confused about the name choice altogether.
