Killian well to be inspected this week to find possible cause of water system issue

KILLIAN, La. (BRPROUD) – Killian residents could experience low water pressure on Wednesday, May 1 as officials try to find the cause of the brown water issue.

Livingston Parish deputies will tell residents about the planned interruption on Monday, the town said in a press release. As water pressure drops, an inspection will be conducted to identify potential problems with the well.

“The results of the activities on Wednesday will ultimately determine our path forward. This path forward will be formulated in coordination with town officials, LOSHEP, GOSHEP, DHH, parish government, our state representatives, local officials and our engineers,” the release said.

According to a Facebook post, brown water appeared on the west side of town around 9 p.m. on Monday, April 22. The mayor of Killian began flushing lines with no development. Authorities issued a boil water advisory for approximately 40 homes situated on the west side of Killian.

Several pallets of water stored in the fire department at the town hall are being given away to residents. Killian officials said two cases of water per person in the household per day can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Private sources are sending extra water, the release said.

Officials also encourage those with special needs or mobility issues to contact town hall. Killian is under a town-wide boil advisory until further notice.
