Kilgore, Sabine soccer results online now

Mar. 31—Kilgore High School soccer fans have been very fortunate for, oh, about a decade.

That good fortune has continued this season. And maybe Sabine's girls soccer team has a little of its own.

A year after COVID-19 put the entire world on pause, including the high school soccer season just as the playoffs arrived, both KHS soccer teams look to be on a mission to punch their tickets for return trips to Georgetown — the site of the University Interscholastic League's state championship games. Between them, Kilgore's boys and girls have made six trips to state in the last decade.

Here's the latest: both KHS soccer teams have advanced to the second round of the UIL Class 4A postseason, and both were to play second-round games last night.

Kilgore's Bulldogs, as chronicled in last weekend's paper, blasted Diboll, 7-0, and were to play their second round contest at Lobo Stadium on Tuesday night, a later game against Pittsburg, a game to be played after the print deadline for this edition of the News Herald. The Lady Bulldogs shut down Lufkin Hudson on Friday, 6-0, and were to play Pleasant Grove Tuesday at Marshall, again after the print deadline for this edition.

Pittsburg and Bullard tied at 1-all Friday night, and Pittsburg advanced on penalty kicks to earn the shot at Kilgore. It's actually a second shot: the Pirates lost to Kilgore earlier this season, 2-0.

The Kilgore-Pittsburg winner will face either Lindale or longtime Bulldogs' soccer rival Palestine in round three this weekend.

The Kilgore Lady Bulldogs routed Lufkin Hudson, 6-0, Friday in Lufkin in the first round of the UIL 4A girls playoffs. Pleasant Grove, Kilgore's second-round opponent, beat Van, 9-0, in round one.

"We started out slow," BonDurant said, "but then midway through the first half, we started playing our game."

Kilgore got two goals from freshman Gloria Cedillo, and one each from Laramie Cox, Emma Taylor, Cristina Rosas, and Estrella Galvan. Taylor, Cox and Rosas all each had an assist.

The Kilgore-Pleasant Grove winner will meet either Bullard or Livingston in round three — those two teams also were to play Tuesday night, in Nacogdoches.

Sabine: Coach Heidi Hagan's Lady Cardinals shocked Palestine, 2-1, in the first round, and the Lady Cardinals were to play North Lamar at Sulphur Springs on Tuesday night in round two.

As mentioned in the weekend edition, both Sabine goals against Palestine were scored by Zuleidy Lara. North Lamar edged Chapel Hill, 3-2, in its first round game.

The Sabine-North Lamar winner would meet either Lindale or Henderson in round three.
