Kiley and Morse draw close race for California’s 3rd Congressional District

(FOX40.COM) — As more and more ballot results are reported across the state the race for California 3rd Congressional District tightens between two candidates.

Incumbent Kevin Kiley and Jessica Morse are close in the polls with Kiley holding a 12.21% lead over Morse on Wednesday morning.

Kiley took his seat in congress in 2022 following a state-wide redistricting of California’s congressional districts.

Prior to being elected to his first term in Congress, Kiley served on the California State Assembly for District 6 from Dec. 5, 2015 to Nov. 30, 2022.

Kiley was born in Sacramento and graduated from Granite Bay High School in Placer County before attending Harvard University and Yale Law School.

Morse also has experience in governmental work when she served as Deputy Secretary for Forest and Wildland Resilience at the California Natural Resources Agency.

In 2023 Morse was appointed to the U.S. Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission.

Both candidates have secured positions on the November ballot.

Following redistricting in 2022, California’s 3rd Congressional District covers Sacramento, Placer, Nevada, Butte, Sierra, Plumas, Alpine, El Dorado, Mono, Yuba and Inyo counties.

Around 761,000 residents live in the district, with Placer County’s over 300,000 residents accounting for the majority of the district’s population.
