Kiel boys basketball’s perfect season ends in heartbreaking loss during state semifinals

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Kiel boys basketball made plenty of history this season, but the chance to play for some state tournament hardware will have to wait following a 57-55 loss in the division three state semifinals.

The Raiders close out the season 28-1 as only one of two teams in the state of Wisconsin to win their first 28 games of the year.

For the latest on high school sports in northeast Wisconsin:

Kiel’s magical season was officially kickstarted after beating conference-rival Brillion in the regular season, avenging the three losses they suffered to the Lions the season prior.

Then the Raiders followed that win up with a streak of victories that included two more W’s over the Lions en route to a conference, regional, and sectional title.

But, when third-seeded Kiel matched up with second-seeded Lakeside Lutheran in the state semifinals, an eight-minute field goal drought, plus a Warriors layup with 1.5 seconds remaining, sunk the Raiders once and for all.

Although Kiel’s first trip to the state tourney since 2010 ended without any hardware, the Raiders made plenty of history in ’23-’24. Check out the full highlights and postgame reaction in the video above.
