Kids Day papers are back for Valley Children’s fundraiser. This year’s goal is $400,000
After a five-year hiatus, Kids Day newspapers and people hawking them will return to Fresno streets, organizers say.
The annual fundraiser that has brought in $11 million since 1988 for Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera by selling Fresno Bee special editions had moved the method of giving online in the wake of COVID-19.
But 4,000 volunteers, many of whom are students, will once again take to street corners to sell the edition that focuses on children’s stories for a suggested donation of $2, organizers say.
Volunteers returned to the street in 2023, but this year marks the return of the special edition papers.
This year’s goal is $400,000, and the papers will be sold in Fresno, Madera, Merced, Stanislaus, Mariposa, Kings and Tulare counties.
Last year’s donations helped Valley Children’s expand neuro-oncology, hematology and precision medicine programs; provide care for more than 382,000 patient encounters; and support 85,100 visits to the emergency department, among other services, according to a news release.
Volunteers will be on street corners throughout the San Joaquin Valley from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
To contribute to Kids Day, anyone can also text GEORGE to 20222 to make an automatic $10 donation or go online at www.valleychildrens.org/donatetokidsday. George is the name of Valley Children’s mascot, a giraffe.
Valley Children’s is routinely ranked among the best hospitals in the country.
