Kickstarter Won’t Take Down ‘The Guide to Getting Awesome With Women’

Remember when feminist pop critic Anita Sarkeesian ran a Kickstarter to fund a video series that would empower girls and women everywhere? Yeah, this is not that. This is the opposite of that.

Ken Hoinsky, who goes by the name "TofuTofu" on Reddit, recently initiated his own Kickstarter to fund the publishing of his book, Above The Game: A Guide to Getting Awesome with Women—but many are calling it a guide to sexually assaulting women.

Meanwhile, Hoinsky's fund has already earned over $16,000—eight times his original goal.

To see it in action, below is a roundup of a few of the excerpts from Above the Game, courtesy of Casey Malone.

To quote Rob Judge, “Personal space is for pu**ies.” I already told you that the most successful seducers are those who can’t keep their hands off of women. Well you’re not gonna be able to do that if you aren’t in close!” “All the greatest seducers in history could not keep their hands off of women. They aggressively escalated physically with every woman they were flirting with. They began touching them immediately, kept great body language and eye contact, and were shameless in their physicality. Even when a girl rejects your advances, she KNOWS that you desire her. That’s hot. It arouses her physically and psychologically.” “Decide that you’re going to sit in a position where you can rub her leg and back. Physically pick her up and sit her on your lap. Don’t ask for permission. Be dominant. Force her to rebuff your advances.” Pull out your c*** out and put her hand on it. Remember, she is letting you do this because you have established yourself as a LEADER. Don’t ask for permission, GRAB HER HAND, and put it right on your d***".

In a later post on resistance, the author does touch on the subject of consent:

If at any point a girl wants you to stop, she will let you know. If she says “STOP,” or “GET AWAY FROM ME,” or shoves you away, you know she is not interested. It happens. Stop escalating immediately and say this line:

“No problem. I don’t want you to do anything you aren’t comfortable with.”

Memorize that line. It is your go-to when faced with resistance. Say it genuinely, without presumption. All master seducers are also masters at making women feel comfortable. You’ll be no different. If a woman isn’t comfortable, take a break and try again later.

But let's get real. After all his urging to take charge and "refuse to ask for permission," and be "the leader," this last mention of consent reads more like a disclaimer clause that may as well be titled, "Don't sue me in case you get arrested for rape." This message of consent is just a small after-thought whose message flies in the face of everything that came before it.

And while we're on the subject,  instead of "try again later" how about "try something else altogether"—like talking to a woman instead of trying to dominate her physically? Or treating a woman like a person instead of a thing to be conquered? And you know what women really like? Not being touched without our consent—and all other forms of treatment that demonstrate you see us as human beings instead of playthings put on Earth to facilitate your pleasure. Truly—we're totally into that.

Most alarming in all of this may just be that Kickstarter—which has a policy that expressly forbids "offensive material"—has allowed the fund to stay live.

In response, several petitions had been started to get it shut down. But that's not going to happen. Kickstarter sent a response to The Raw Story this afternoon, which read in part:

This morning, material that a project creator posted on Reddit earlier this year was brought to our and the public’s attention just hours before the project’s deadline. Some of this material is abhorrent and inconsistent with our values as people and as an organization. Based on our current guidelines, however, the material on Reddit did not warrant the irreversible action of canceling the project.
