Kia hosting Fresno theft deterrent installation event

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Kia America will be fitting theft deterrents to its cars at an event in Fresno later this month.

The “theft deterrent installation event” at Fashion Fair Mall is in response to what the company says are social media “challenges” that encourage theft of certain Kia vehicles. Drivers of eligible Kia vehicles can have a theft-deterrent ignition cylinder protector installed for free.

Kia America says vehicles with a steel key and turn-to-start ignition system are being targeted by a “new phenomenon of online theft promotion.” As well as installing the ignition cylinder protector, staff will also install decals on vehicle windows to discourage any break-ins. The event will run May 31 through June 2 at Fashion Fair Mall. On Friday through Saturday, it will be 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and on Sunday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
