Khloé Kardashian ‘Found Strength’ in the Crisis That Prompted Her Family to Put Their Lives in Her Hands

Khloé Kardashian has been through some tough times in recent years, but she’s still the backbone of her famous family.

During her cover interview with Health for their January/February issue, on newsstands Dec. 23, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star revealed that after she was forced to make medical decisions for her ex-husband Lamar Odom during his health crisis last year, her entire family decided to adjust their wills.

“This is kind of dark, but after that, my whole family changed all of their wills so that I would be their medical adviser,” she said. “Because you don’t know how someone reacts until you’re put in that situation — God forbid. No one should be put in those situations, but with that, I found strength from within.”

Odom, 37, was hospitalized in October 2015 following a near-fatal overdose. Though the former NBA star and Kardashian, 32, had both signed divorce papers that July, they were still legally married since a judgment had not yet been entered in court. As a result, Kardashian was put in charge of Odom’s medical care and soon proceeded to call off their protracted divorce so that she could continue to make the best medical decisions for her ex.

According to the star, she somehow found the strength to remain level-headed despite the toll of the traumatic experience.

“I was super calm,” she told the magazine. “And I was more like, ‘It’s greater than you,’ and you just get strength.’ ”

As for where she finds that strength? According to her, it comes partly from her late father Robert Kardashian.

“I pray a lot,” revealed the star, who said that the last thing she does before bed every night is say a prayer. “And I talk to my dad a lot.”

Kardashian went on to reinitiate the former couple’s divorce proceedings in May 2016, and their marriage will be legally terminated on Saturday. The two have since gone their separate ways: Odom recently checked into rehab and is set to begin filming a new reality series about his recovery, and Kardashian has been dating Cleveland Cavaliers player Tristan Thompson since September.

“My boyfriend’s a cutie,” she told the magazine. “I’m 5’10”, and he’s 6’9”. I love athletes. Someone who has the same interests as me, who likes to work out, like that’s their hobby or their job, that’s fine. Tristan is who I’m into. He’s a little cutie.”
