Key revenue figure rises at The Buckle in May

The Buckle key revenue figure rises 4.1 percent in May, ahead of expectations

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) -- The Buckle Inc.'s revenue at stores open at least a year climbed 4.1 percent in May, as teens snapped up spring and summer clothing.

The teen apparel retailer's results topped analyst expectations of a 3.3 percent rise, according to a poll by Thomson Reuters.

Revenue in stores open at least one year is a key indicator of a retailer's health because it excludes results from stores recently opened or closed.

For the four weeks ended June 1, the Kearney, Neb.-based chain's total revenue rose 4 percent to $72.8 million from $69.9 million last year.

Year-to-date revenue at stores open at least a year increased 1.8 percent, while total sales climbed 2.7 percent to $342.5 million.

Shares of The Buckle closed Wednesday at $53.86, up 27 percent since the start of the year.
