Kevin Durant's next chapter: an original television series inspired by his childhood

Unlike The Players Tribune piece, which has taken on a life of its own in memes, Kevin Durant’s next chapter will be televised. As part of its billion dollar investment into beefing up its original content, Apple has announced plans to develop a television series, inspired by the childhood of Kevin Durant.

According to Variety’s report, the show’s plot will revolve around the world of AAU hoops and the lives of the players, families and coaches. Naturally, the obvious comparison is to capture the passion, drama scandal and intensity of AAU basketball much like ‘Friday Night Lights’ depicted Texas high school football.

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Television will produce the series along with Durant’s Thirty Five Media. The media production and creative development startup was co-founded by Durant last year and also announced a YouTube content deal in January.

Reggie Rock Bythewood, will serve as writer for the series. previously wrote the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, ‘Notorious’ and was on the writing staff for NBC’s 90’s sitcom, A Different World and FOX’s cop drama ‘New York Undercover.’ While there’s no official synopsis for the series, one can glean from Bythewood’s track record that the final product will be a gritty, serious drama.
