Keshi sticking to his guns

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi insists he has no intention of bringing in 'new faces' as they prepare to travel to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup finals. The Super Eagles will jet off to South America later this year, having earned their place at the global showpiece after coming out on top in their qualifying play-off against Ethiopia. Keshi has been under pressure to bring new talent into the setup, although the coach is refusing to 'tear apart' the squad he has been building since before the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. "We have been trying to build a team since the past two years when I came on board, so I don't see any reason why we have to tear the team apart by looking for newer faces to make some people satisfied," the tactician said. Keshi did, however, inform the current crop of players that no-one's place is safe, and has warned against complacency from his charges as they gear up towards the World Cup. "We have a pool of players already on ground, and all that we need to do is to continue building on that, but it doesn't mean that if you were in the team when we won Nations Cup that you must be in the team to the World Cup," the coach added. "If I see anybody better than you, I will take him. Sorry it is not for me, it is for the country and for Africa because we are going there to defend Africa, to defend Nigeria and to defend our pride. So there are a lot of things at stake and I will not negotiate for that."
