Keshena man facing 50 years in prison after nearly killing woman on Menominee Indian Reservation

KESHENA, Wis. (WFRV) – A 42-year-old Keshena man was indicted by a federal grand jury on Tuesday for several malicious crimes on the Menominee Indian Reservation.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, 42-year-old John V. Miller Jr. of Keshena is charged with kidnapping, assault with intent to murder, and domestic assault by strangulation for an incident on the reservation on or about March 29, 2024.

Court records show while at a location on the Menominee Indian Reservation, Miller Jr. allegedly strangled a woman with whom he had a prior intimate relationship, attempted to strangle her to the point of unconsciousness, and assaulted her in an attempt to kill her. Miller Jr. then allegedly seized and confined her inside the trunk of a vehicle to conceal his actions.

If convicted on all three charges, Miller Jr. faces up to 50 years in prison and up to $750,000 in fines. The Menominee Tribal Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier will prosecute the case in U.S. District Court in Green Bay.
