Kern County Sheriff’s Office prepares for hiring event next week in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is giving people an opportunity to start off a new career serving their community.

On April 17, a hiring event at the KCSO Employer’s Training Center is set to begin at 10 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. Officials are looking to fill positions ranging from sheriff’s deputy coroner to deputy sheriff trainee.

Lori Meza, with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office and Tiffany Nacke with the County of Kern, joined 17 News at Noon to talk about the upcoming event and training for certain jobs.

“We do all of our academies in house,” said Lori Meza. “We are very fortunate as a law enforcement agency to not have to outsource for any of our academies.”

Dispatchers, coroners, records specialists and detentions trainees all get trained on-site, according to Meza.

The County of Kern is also looking to fill some park ranger positions. Tiffany Nacke talked to 17 News about what is needed to apply for the job.

“We just opened up a park ranger trainee recruitment. A high school diploma and a pre-employment test are all you need to get started,” said Nacke.

The Employer’s Training Center is located at 1600 E. Belle Terrace.
