BOSTON (AP) — Rita Jeptoo of Kenya has won the women's race in the Boston Marathon for the second time.
Jeptoo also won in 2006. She took two years off after having a baby.
She finished on Monday in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, 25 seconds. That was 33 seconds better than Meseret Hailu of Ethiopia.
American Shalane Flanagan was fourth.
A year after temperatures approaching 90 degrees slowed the race, cool temperatures greeted the field of 24,662 in Hopkinton on Monday morning for the 117th edition of the 26.2-mile run.
